Inner Alchemy supports the health and well being of our teenage population. In addition to Teen Sound Baths, Teen Meditation and Art Journaling, we are very excited to be hosting a Youth Mental Health First Aid Class.
Please note-there are 20 seats available for this class at $35 (normally $170) with all materials provided.
Do you know of a teen who is suffering from anxiety and/or depression and you don't know what to do about it?
Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This 8-hour training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to adolescents (ages 12-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

WHAT IT COVERS
• Common signs and symptoms of mental illnesses in this age group, including:
-Anxiety
-Depression
-Eating disorders
-Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
Common signs and symptoms of substance use.
How to interact with an adolescent in crisis.
How to connect the adolescent with help.
The course will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:
• Assess for risk of suicide or harm
• Encourage appropriate professional help
• Listen non-judgmentally
• Encourage self-help and other
• Give reassurance and information support strategies

Join Donna M.A. Dykstra, Mental Health Facilitator, for this powerful and practical class that will provide you with tools for being able to support the teens in your life.
Donna has been offering mental health trainings of various sorts for 20 years. For the past 5 years she has been offering Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainings, including Youth MHFA, Adult MHFA, MHFA for Older Adults, for Veterans, for Rural Communities, and for First Responders. She has also been involved in trainings that teach people how to be certified Peer Specialists, and on melding mental and physical wellness.
Donna lives locally in West Seattle. She understands from her own personal experience, what people living with mental health challenges need to flourish: hope, self care and allies who understand and can hold hope for them during times of great difficulty.
Donna has facilitated classes and trainings across the country with very diverse groups. She finds it deeply satisfying to assist people in coming to an understanding of mental health concerns and ways to be supportive friends, family members, neighbors and community members.
